Shreya Ghoshal, recognized as an Indian vocal prodigy, launched her career at the age of four. She grew up in an accomplished household headed by a nuclear engineer father and a literary scholar mother, revealing prodigious ability from an early stage. Her mother provided initial instruction before Ghoshal commenced formal Hindustani classical studies in the nearby town of Kota. Entry into national visibility followed her successful audition for the Zee TV music talent program Sa Re Ga Ma. Progress through the contest proved decisive, as she claimed victory in the 75th special children's episode and then the children's mega-final of 1996 at age twelve. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali took note and cast her in the playback role of Paro for the Bollywood film Devdas. Recording began in 2000, with release arriving the next year. Thereafter her profile rose rapidly, positioning her among Bollywood's foremost playback singers and supplying vocals for many of the industry's best-known actresses. Her contribution to the song "Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai" from the 2003 film Jism secured national airplay placement and substantial recognition beyond cinema. Eight industry awards followed, including the National Award in 2003. Command of Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu in addition to her native Hindi further distinguishes her within the Indian recording industry. Although her higher education did not pursue a musical direction, Shreya Ghoshal continues as a regular presence in studios throughout India.
