Biography
Jean-François Dandrieu, a French composer and harpsichordist, stood alongside Couperin and Rameau in both renown and artistic impact through his harpsichord pieces and performances. Recognition came to him for revising the early compositions of his uncle Pierre, an effort aimed at bringing that music into a more contemporary idiom. Among the duties Jean-François carried out as one of the royal organists was supervision of the restoration work on the instrument at St. Andre des Arts. His principal works, chiefly noels and sonatas for harpsichord, appeared in no fewer than four separate volumes.
