Jefre Cantu-Ledesma crafts music that merges deliberate ambient drift, exploratory noise elements, and the layered density of shoegaze, channeling these traits across varied instrumental formats. His approach surfaces in the hazy, distortion-heavy atmospheres of the 2010 debut Love Is a Stream and extends into the decelerated rhythmic patterns and reel-to-reel manipulations found on 2015's A Year with 13 Moons. Beyond solo projects, he maintains an active collaborative practice, enlisting numerous contributors for the 2019 album Tracing Back the Radiance and joining forces with Ilyas Ahmed for the 2021 release You Can See Your Own Way Out.

Raised in Texas, Cantu-Ledesma began pursuing abstract sound practices during his mid-'90s studies in sculpture and visual arts in San Francisco. He shaped an ambient-inflected take on the era's spacy indie rock and slowcore by co-founding the influential instrumental group Tarentel, contributing to the experimental rock trio the Alps, and operating the respected drone and ambient imprint Root Strata. His extensive partnership history includes the duo Raum alongside Grouper's Liz Harris, joint efforts with filmmaker Paul Clipson, and involvement in Alexis Georgopoulos' ARP project. He briefly issued material under the Colophon alias before releasing under his own name, with the first formal solo outing arriving in 2010 via the richly distorted shoegaze textures of Love Is a Stream on Type Records. Select pressings of that album incorporated the companion EP Love Is a Dream, which documented exchanges between Cantu-Ledesma and Type founder John Twells' Xela project.

After multiple limited-run cassette and vinyl editions, the follow-up A Year with 13 Moons appeared in 2015 on Mexican Summer. Drawing its title from a Fassbinder film, the set combined ethereal guitar layers, modular synthesizer textures, and remote drum-machine pulses, assembled during a residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shelter Press issued the 2016 collaborative LP Comme un Seul Narcisse with Félicia Atkinson (aka Je Suis le Petit Chevalier), while Geographic North put out the solo cassette In Summer that same year. Pre-Echo also delivered vinyl versions of the 2014 cassette releases Songs of Remembrance and Songs of Forgiveness in 2016. Cantu-Ledesma returned to Mexican Summer in 2017 with On the Echoing Green, an album that favored clearer and more immediate structures than earlier work. Tracing Back the Radiance, issued in 2019, moved further into restrained, experimental, and chamber-oriented instrumentation, and the 2021 duo album You Can See Your Own Way Out documented his collaboration with Portland musician Ilyas Ahmed.
