Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jim Nunally carries forward a family tradition as the third-generation guitarist, having received his affinity for the instrument from his father and grandfather. Working chiefly as a session player, he performed bluegrass guitar on the CBS television special Snoopy's Reunion in a manner that suggested the music originated with the celebrated cartoon beagle. His appearance on the album True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe brought him a shared Grammy Award for Bluegrass Album of the Year in 1996. He maintains a guitar duo with Dix Bruce that has produced the albums From Fathers to Sons, The Way Things Are, In My Beautiful Dream, and Brothers at Heart in 2003. Nunally serves as lead guitarist and vocalist for the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, tours alongside John Reischman & the Jaybirds, and fronts his own San Francisco-based group, Due West. Issued on FGM Records on August 7, 2007, his debut solo album Gloria's Waltz includes contributions from Bruce, the Grisman group, the Jaybirds, Due West, and additional collaborators.
