Biography
The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex operates as an exploratory jazz and rock ensemble fronted by Jimmy Chamberlin, longtime drummer for Smashing Pumpkins. Chamberlin, a dedicated jazz and fusion enthusiast, launched the group in 2004 to pursue material more experimental than his primary alt-rock commitments. Its lineup also includes bassist and producer Billy Mohler, guitarist Sean Woolstenhulme, pianist Randy Ingram, and saxophonist Chris Speed. The outfit made its recorded entrance in 2005 via the Sanctuary release Life Begins Again. Chamberlin subsequently stepped back from the project to focus on Skysaw and to collaborate with Chicago saxophonist Frank Catalano. In 2016 the non-album single “Paranoid” signaled the Complex’s resumption of activity, and the following year the band issued its second full-length effort, Parable, through Mohler’s MAKE Records.
