Biography
In 1971, Los Angeles saw the formation of rock band Jo Jo Gunne, founded by Jay Ferguson (b. May 10, 1947; Burbank, CA) on keyboards and vocals together with Mark Andes (b. February 19, 1948; Philadelphia) on bass and vocals following their exit from Spirit. Mark's brother Matt Andes (b. California) on guitar and vocals plus Curley Smith (b. January 31, 1952; Wolf Point, MT) on drums completed the roster. The musicians secured a deal with Asylum Records and issued a self-titled debut album that included the Top 40 hit "Run, Run, Run," after which Mark Andes exited and Jimmy Randall (b. February 14, 1949, Dallas) took over on bass. (Andes went on to be a member of Firefall and Heart.) Three further albums followed amid ongoing lineup adjustments, yet the group never recaptured the debut's commercial traction and dissolved in 1975. Ferguson later issued solo albums and composed film scores.
