Biography
Born in Atlanta, GA, Joel Chernoff relocated to Cincinnati, OH while still very young and spent his formative years in the Midwest as a Messianic Jew—one who holds that Jesus serves as personal savior. After completing high school he settled in Philadelphia, where in 1972 he founded Lamb, recognized as the first Messianic Jewish rock band. The group issued recordings through independent labels, gained a following within the Christian rock underground, and continued until its dissolution in 1992. Chernoff’s growing stature in the Messianic movement later prompted his return to music during the late ’90s. He issued The Restoration of Israel in 1999 and followed it with Come Dance With Me in 2002.
