Biography
John Payne launched his musical path fronting Moonstone, an ensemble steeped in the Hendrix tradition. A full decade of gigs with that outfit yielded little in the way of steady income, pushing him instead toward session recordings. Those dates placed him alongside Roger Daltry, Erasure, and Mike Oldfield. Asia recruited Payne in 1991 to serve as their newest vocalist after John Wetton’s departure, a role he has maintained without interruption as the band’s singer and frontman.
