Producer and rapper Juicy J contributed substantially to elevating Southern rap from the margins to mainstream dominance after an era when East and West Coast scenes held sway. With production partner DJ Paul, he guided Three 6 Mafia from a Memphis underground sensation into a nationwide operation that generated numerous solo releases for its members beginning in the mid-'90s. Juicy also supervised complete projects for Project Pat and Gangsta Boo while securing an Academy Award for Three 6 Mafia’s “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” featured on the Hustle & Flow soundtrack. His production credits further include UGK’s “International Players Anthem (I Choose You)” and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.” Standout solo efforts encompass the Top Ten album Stay Trippy (2013), which spawned the platinum-certified Top 40 single “Bandz a Make Her Dance.” Guest appearances yielded additional successes, above all Katy Perry’s number-one, Grammy-nominated “Dark Horse,” with further Top 40 placements alongside Ne-Yo, Usher, and Rae Sremmurd arriving ahead of the fifth solo album The Hustle Continues (2020). Three collaborative albums followed in 2022: Stoner's Night with Wiz Khalifa, Space Age Pimpin with Pi'erre Bourne, and Crypto Business with Lex Luger & Trap-A-Holics. Two Mental Trillness mixtapes surfaced in 2023 and 2024.

Juicy J (born Jordan Michael Houston III) first linked with DJ Paul as Memphis DJs at the start of the '90s. They soon crafted original beats and recruited local rappers to record over them, issuing the results regionally under the Triple 6 Mafia name; those early recordings later resurfaced as reissues. The collective adopted the Three 6 Mafia moniker in 1995 and independently issued its debut album Mystic Stylez, which achieved underground acclaim and secured a distribution arrangement through Relativity’s Hypnotized Minds label. Juicy J and DJ Paul then oversaw multiple Hypnotized Minds albums annually, leveraging the deal to expand operations until they helmed a commercial breakthrough with When the Smoke Clears, which entered the Billboard 200 at number six in 2000.

During a lull in Three 6 Mafia activity, Juicy launched his solo career with the 2002 release Chronicles of the Juice Man. The group later attained greater visibility through several Top Ten albums, multiple Top 40 pop singles, and the Academy Award-winning “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” from Hustle & Flow, while Juicy and DJ Paul also produced UGK’s “International Players Anthem.” His second solo album, Hustle 'til I Die, appeared near the close of the decade.

Within a few years Juicy issued various mixtapes both solo and alongside Project Pat, acquired partial ownership of Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang imprint, and dropped “Bandz a Make Her Dance,” which climbed to number six on the R&B/hip-hop chart, number 29 on the Hot 100, and earned platinum status. The track appeared on his third solo album, 2013’s Stay Trippy, issued via Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records; it debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and was promoted with a U.S. tour co-headlined by A$AP Ferg. That year Juicy also featured on Katy Perry’s chart-topping “Dark Horse,” later nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Subsequent guest verses supported Ne-Yo’s “She Knows,” which reached number 19 on the pop chart, and Usher’s “I Don't Mind,” which peaked at number 11.

TGOD Mafia: Rude Awakening, his 2016 collaboration with Wiz Khalifa and TM88, arrived through Atlantic and opened at number 26 on the Billboard 200. Four prominent singles emerged the same year: “No English” with Travis Scott, “Ballin” with Kanye West, “Magic Trick” with Borgore, and “Gimme Gimme” with Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd. Further 2017 releases included “Ain't Nothing” with Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign plus “Flood Watch” with Offset of Migos. The Highly Intoxicated mixtape, assisted by Southside, TM88, Mike WiLL Made-It, XXXTentacion, A$AP Rocky, and Cardi B among others, followed later that year. Rubba Band Business, Juicy’s fourth album, appeared months afterward and included A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, and Travis Scott.

He joined Rae Sremmurd on the 2018 single “Powerglide,” which reached number 28 on the pop chart, and contributed to remixes of the Deadpool 2 track “Welcome to the Party” and Marshmello’s “You Can Cry” with James Arthur. That autumn he paired with Travis Scott for “Neighbor.” The standalone single “Three Point Stance,” featuring City Girls and Megan Thee Stallion, surfaced in June 2019, followed two months later by Megan’s “Hot Girl Summer,” a number 11 pop hit co-produced by Juicy. In June 2020 he released the protest single “Hella F***in' Trauma” addressing racial injustice and police brutality. His fifth solo album, The Hustle Continues, arrived that November with contributions from Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, and additional guests. A deluxe edition titled The Hustle Still Continues appeared in June 2021, adding nine tracks that included Pooh Shiesty, Henry AZ, and Duki.

February 2022 brought the full-length Stoner's Night with Khalifa. Space Age Pimpin, recorded with Pi'erre Bourne, followed in June, and Crypto Business, a joint project with Lex Luger and Trap-A-Holics, appeared in November. Mental Trillness arrived as a mixtape in 2023, succeeded by Mental Trillness 2 in 2024.
