Biography
Singer/songwriter Justin Currie entered the world in Scotland on December 11, 1964. The Glasgow native served as bassist, vocalist, and principal songwriter for the Scottish folk-pop band Del Amitri, issuing six studio albums from 1982 through 2002 prior to launching a solo path. His knack for crafting memorable melodies alongside lyrics that blended wry humor, sincerity, and occasional sharpness translated seamlessly into his independent releases. The introspective 2007 debut What Is Love For assembled a set of lovelorn ballads that probed the more shadowed aspects of romance, whereas The Great War in 2010 revived the bittersweet midtempo jangle pop associated with his former group. Lower Reaches arrived in 2013 as his third solo album. During a BBC Radio 2 conversation with Terry Wogan that year, Currie suggested a Del Amitri reunion remained feasible, and the band later affirmed plans for live performances. A U.K. tour was subsequently scheduled, culminating in an appearance before 8,000 spectators at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro. The next year yielded the live album Into the Mirror documenting those dates. Even amid this return to his old ensemble, Currie sustained his solo trajectory and delivered the fourth solo effort This Is My Kingdom in 2017.
