Biography
Emerging from a jali lineage, Manfila took up the balafon and guitar during his early years. His path led him to Les Ballets Africains before he relocated to Bamako in the 1960s and entered the Rail Band alongside Salif Keita and Mory Kante. He and Keita shifted to Les Ambassadeurs in the early 1970s, which launched their productive partnership. In the 1980s each launched a solo path, Manfila having settled in Paris where he recorded with both intimate traditional ensembles and large dance bands.
