Biography
Kathy Sledge, a vocalist and songwriter, joined her older siblings in the Philadelphia-based soul group Sister Sledge, whose debut single appeared in 1971 before the act rose to prominence as a leading disco outfit toward the end of that decade. Several of the ensemble’s major successes, among them “He’s the Greatest Dancer,” “We Are Family,” “Got to Love Somebody,” and “All American Girls,” featured her on lead vocals. She entered into a solo contract with Epic in 1992 and collaborated with respected producers such as Barry Eastmond, Bryan Loren, and LeMel Humes. The resulting album Heart included the single “Take Me Back to Love Again,” which reached the top of Billboard’s club chart, along with the ballad “All of My Love.” Its uplifting title track was issued separately and also registered as a club success. Following her departure from Epic, Sledge persisted in creating club-oriented material alongside Robert Miles, King Britt & Sylk 130, and Aristofreeks.
