Biography
Martha Wash, an exuberant vocalist equipped with a powerful instrument and a bold, emphatic delivery, first joined forces with Izora Armstead. Performing as Two Tons o' Fun, the pair supplied backing vocals for Sylvester and later cut tracks for Fantasy. They adopted the name the Weather Girls after moving to Columbia. Wash next concentrated on session contributions in her role as a solo artist. Early in the 1990s she became embroiled in public dispute after asserting that C&C Music Factory had withheld credit for her vocals on the major success “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).” The rich, shattering timbre she supplied helped turn “Everybody Everybody” into a hit for Black Box, yet her exclusion from the video left her equally displeased. Wash entered a recording deal with BMG in 1991.
