Crystal Waters

Crystal Waters, a New Jersey vocalist who majored in computer science at Howard, scored one of 1991’s unexpected left-field successes with “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless).” The track combined a potent message with a standout vocal that artfully fused anger, irony, and humor. Although her later material never matched that spark, her debut album Surprise placed her firmly in contention. Storyteller arrived in 1994, and in 1997 she issued a self-titled effort.
