In the early 1990s Tommy Musto and Victor Simonelli introduced Tucker to recording by placing her voice on multiple releases they produced. Her distinctive vocal style and commanding stage image quickly turned her into a standout figure within New York’s gay and Hi-NRG circles. British listeners first encountered her through the soul and house single ‘Beautiful People’, built around the ‘Deep Deep Inside’ hook taken from Hardrive’s track of the same name and reworked by C.J. Mackintosh. Lil’ Louie Vega produced the track, and he and Tucker jointly operate the Underground Network Club in New York. The supporting vocalists assembled for the recording—Michael Watford, India and Byron Stingily of Ten City—underscored the regard in which she is held by that circle of artists.
