Ann Nesby

Having served as lead vocalist in the thirty-piece gospel choir Sounds of Blackness, Ann Nesby embarked on a solo path in 1996 by issuing the album Ann Nesby 1996 through the Perspective label. Super-producers Jam & Lewis shaped the R&B-oriented project, which reached listeners via the hit single "I'm Here for You." Her voice appears on multiple soundtracks, among them Batman, Mo' Money, and Demolition Man, as well as tribute albums honoring Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and John Lennon. Two Grammy awards have recognized her work: the first arrived with Sounds of Blackness for their 1991 release Evolution of Gospel, while the second recognized her contribution to the soul-styled interpretation of Handel's Messiah titled A Soulful Celebration.
