CeCe Peniston

Born in Dayton, Ohio, CeCe Peniston relocated with her family to Phoenix at the age of nine. The disco diva appeared set to emerge as the leading crossover star of her style after being named Miss Black Arizona in 1989 and securing a contract with A&M Records during the early 1990s. Her first release, Finally, earned gold certification while reaching number 36 on the pop album chart and yielding the Top Ten pop success “Finally” along with the Top 20 single “We Got a Love Thang.” Following the 1994 album Thought ’Ya Knew, she delivered I’m Movin’ On in 1996. Peniston maintained an active singing career into the new millennium, performing regularly in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and San Francisco. Although she never fully rejoined the pop mainstream that had propelled her initial breakthrough, her recordings continue to receive fresh remixes and enjoy enduring popularity in nightclubs worldwide.
