Over a career stretching across multiple decades that commenced toward the close of the new jack swing period, the polished singer Chanté Moore has charted more than a dozen tracks on Billboard's R&B survey. As the child of a minister, she absorbed gospel sounds alongside recordings from George Duke and Lee Ritenour while growing up, occasionally crafting her own words to accompany their material. During her teenage years, a compelling turn in a high-school staging of The Wiz convinced her to pursue a professional path as a vocalist. At 22, producer and executive Louil Silas spotted her talent and placed her on his MCA imprint Silas Records.

Moore joined El DeBarge on the 1992 Top 15 R&B single "You Know What I Like" and simultaneously issued her first album, Precious. Driven by the tracks "Love's Taken Over" and "It's Alright," the project earned gold status. Silas/MCA issued three further albums through 2000, each of which reached or approached the upper tier of the R&B Albums chart. Although solo output paused for an extended stretch, Moore maintained momentum through joint projects. She and R. Kelly joined the Isley Brothers on the 2001 single "Contagious," a Top 20 pop success nominated for a Grammy in the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal category.

With her husband at the time, Kenny Lattimore, she created the 2003 release Things That Lovers Do and the 2006 set Uncovered/Covered. Love the Woman appeared on the Peak label in 2008. Following her divorce from Lattimore, Moore moved to the Shanachie roster and delivered Moore Is More in 2013. She also took part in the TV One series R&B Divas LA, a spin-off of R&B Divas, during that period. The Rise of the Phoenix and the seasonal collection Christmas Back to You both arrived in 2017.
