Hailing from Houston, Texas, where she grew up immersed in music, contemporary R&B and soul vocalist Trina Broussard drew early inspiration from her mother’s work as a jazz singer and her father’s role as a guitarist in jazz big bands, where he backed pop vocalists Anita Baker, Stevie Wonder, and Donny Hathaway. After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1990 she launched her professional career by supplying background vocals for Bobby Brown, Pebbles, Babyface, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, and BeBe & CeCe Winans. An introduction to Trey Lorenz prompted her to start writing original material and ultimately secured a contract with the So So Def imprint. Her debut hit arrived via the Minnie Riperton composition “Inside My Love,” which appeared on the platinum-selling 1997 film soundtrack Love Jones. In 1998 Broussard co-authored Aretha Franklin’s hit record “Here We Go Again,” then issued her own follow-up single “Love You So Much” the next year, although the album slated for release at that time remained unreleased. She joined the Motown roster in 2002 and tracked the album Same Girl in tandem with Ra-Re Valverde. Life of a Libra appeared as her 2008 CD.
