Missy Elliott and Timbaland brought soulful singer-songwriter Tweet, born Charlene Keys, into the spotlight during 2002 after she had joined Elliott on the single “Take Away,” which also included Ginuwine and appeared on Miss E…So Addictive, as well as on the track “X” from Ja Rule’s Pain Is Love. Timbaland handled production for her debut album Southern Hummingbird while Elliott supplied guest vocals, most prominently on the opening single “Oops (Oh My).” That track exploded into an instant success, and its Fabolous-assisted remix increased urban-radio rotation, broadening her reach into rap circles and building anticipation for the full project. Two years later came It’s Me Again, which mirrored the debut by peaking at number two on the R&B chart yet quickly faded; its strongest single, “Turn da Lights Off,” only grazed the R&B Top 40. Following an unfruitful period at Umbrella Recordings, she resurfaced quietly in 2013 with the EP Simply Tweet and then delivered her third full-length, Charlene, via the eOne imprint in 2016.
