Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, R&B vocalist and composer Laura Izibor entered the major-label arena via multiple soundtrack placements beginning in 2007, ahead of unveiling her first full-length project, Let the Truth Be Told, in 2009. Born in the Irish capital, she drew primary inspiration from 1960s and 1970s soul figures including Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Candi Staton, and Roberta Flack; after launching her professional singing career while still a teenager, she cultivated an approach frequently likened to that of Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott. Early acclaim followed swiftly when she captured the 2FM Song Contest at 15, leading to a Jive Records deal at 17. Although she initiated sessions for her debut album under that imprint, tensions prompted a shift to Atlantic Records, where she resumed work that ultimately spanned four years and involved studios across Dublin and the United States. Several completed tracks surfaced in 2007 on various soundtrack releases: “Shine” appeared in The Nanny Diaries, “Mmm…” in Why Did I Get Married?, “Carousel” in P.S. I Love You, and “From My Heart to Yours” in Grey’s Anatomy as well as The Hills. That same year Atlantic issued the five-track live set Live from Crawdaddy, Dublin. Ahead of the album’s arrival, “From My Heart to Yours” surfaced as a single in late 2008, accompanied by a digitally released four-track EP containing a DJ Premier remix. Opening-act dates supporting Adele across Ireland and Great Britain in late 2008 further built anticipation for Let the Truth Be Told, which finally emerged in 2009 after Izibor wrote and co-produced the material herself.
