Drawing from a wide array of inspirations including Arctic Monkeys and Stevie Wonder, Eliza Doolittle developed a musical style incorporating ska, light and seasonal folk elements, along with retro-modern pop sounds, earning her stylistic parallels to Lily Allen and Kate Nash. The year 2008 saw the launch of her initial single "Piano Song," which caught the eye of multiple prominent record companies and led to her signing with Parlophone Records. Following the issuance of an EP bearing her own name, she achieved success via "Skinny Genes," her inaugural major release that climbed to position 22 during 2010, bolstered by airplay on Radio 2 as well as its placement in an advertisement for the clothing retailer Very. Her subsequent track "Pack Up" attained the number five spot, coinciding with the chart debut at number three of her first full-length record, also self-titled, on which she collaborated in writing with Craigie Dodds of Sugababes and the late Jonny Dollar from Massive Attack. Doolittle made her comeback in 2013 through the second album titled In Your Hands, which included the track "Big When I Was Little."
