Biography
Lisa Mitchell first stepped into the spotlight as an Australian folk-pop singer and songwriter after finishing sixth among the finalists on Australian Idol in 2006. Although she entered the world in Canterbury, England, on March 22, 1990, her formative years unfolded mainly across Australia, beginning in Albury before the family settled in Melbourne. Still only sixteen when she reached that Idol placement, Mitchell used the platform to showcase several original compositions and soon afterward committed to a solo career in the folk-pop realm.
Her first independent release arrived in 2007 as the four-track EP Said One to the Other, issued through Scorpio Music and Warner Music. Dann Hume of Evermore handled production duties, and the project earned favorable notice among critics. A second four-song EP, Welcome to the Afternoon, appeared the following year. Hume again served as primary producer, and the record yielded the singles “See You When You Get Here” and “Neapolitan Dreams,” the latter climbing to number 70 on the ARIA charts. Mitchell reentered the charts in the summer of 2009 with her debut full-length album, Wonder. Packed with quirky, wide-ranging pop songs, the set peaked at number six on the Australian albums chart, delivered the Top 40 single “Coin Laundry,” and eventually attained gold status.
