Biography
Singer/songwriter Josh Pyke emerged from Australia to join the indie circuit in 2005 through his first release, Recordings 2003-2005. The project yielded two radio favorites: “Middle of the Hill,” which listeners placed at number 19 on the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown that year, and “Private Education,” which reached number 57 on the same tally twelve months later. Buoyed by this underground exposure, Pyke joined the roster of Ivy League Records in 2005. His opening effort for the imprint, Feeding the Wolves, earned an Australian Recording Industry Association nomination and thereby introduced him to collaborators Wayne Connolly, Matt Lovell, and Chris Joannou. Following two years of intensive road work, he delivered Memories & Dust, which received an enthusiastic response. Pyke’s melodic instincts and pointed lyrics quickly attracted listeners across Australia and the U.K. Chimney’s Afire, tracked at Linear Recording Studios in Sydney, surfaced in 2008; it was followed in 2011 by the Wayne Connolly–produced Only Sparrows. The Beginning & the End of Everything appeared in 2012.
