Pete Murray, recognized for his introspective and understated folk-pop style, rose from relative anonymity during the mid-2000s to rank among Australia's premier music figures. His 2003 second album, Feeler, marked the breakthrough that propelled three straight records to the top spot on the charts, while he sustained strong live draw and regular chart presence over the following ten years. As he entered his third decade in the industry, Murray opted for a deliberate move to more frequent but compact outputs, beginning with the single "Found My Place" in 2020.

Originating from Queensland where he grew up, Murray excelled in sports at Nudgee College and earned selection for the Queensland seven-a-side rugby squad in 1993 until injuries interrupted his athletic path. During recovery, he picked up the guitar without major ambitions in music and instead pursued studies in sports medicine. Encouragement from friends led him to perform vocals professionally, resulting in his first album The Game after years of performing in clubs in 2002.

Upon joining Sony BMG, he put out Feeler as his initial major-label project halfway through 2003. Consistent rotation on the Australian alternative station Triple J helped it chart domestically, and the launch of the third single "So Beautiful" catapulted his fame. In March 2004 Feeler hit number one and earned six-times platinum certification. After an extensive Australian tour, Murray confirmed his longevity via 2005's See the Sun, which also reached the summit and achieved nearly equivalent success at four-times platinum. His third number one came with 2008's Summer at Eureka, and by the close of the decade he had solidified his status as one of the nation's top-selling musicians.

Following a divorce, the well-received 2011 album Blue Sky Blue emerged as an unexpectedly uplifting collection that later appeared in acoustic and duet formats on the 2015 set Blue Sky Blue "The Byron Sessions." Demonstrating enduring commercial strength, Murray returned to number three with his seventh record, the 2017 album Comacho, which incorporated electronic loops and synth elements in its polished production. In 2020 he altered his strategy by planning multiple smaller and more regular releases such as singles and EPs, with "Found My Place" as the initial offering.
