Biography
Revolving around the creative force of singer/songwriter Mat McHugh, the Australian rock outfit Beautiful Girls crafts an eclectic blend of rootsy, folk-inflected pop. This sound has invited parallels with kindred spirits such as Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and Mason Jennings. The group came together in 2002 and issued the mini-album Morning Sun along with the five-track limited-edition EP Good Times ahead of their debut full-length effort, Learn Yourself, which appeared on San Dumo in 2003. Their sophomore studio album, We're Already Gone, arrived the following year. Subsequent releases included Water in 2006 and Ziggurats in 2007.
