The rock outfit Midnight Youth from New Zealand launched their first album in 2009 and came within striking distance of the summit on the charts. Auckland served as the birthplace of the group in 2006, when its lineup came together around Jeremy Redmore handling vocals and guitar, Simon Oscroft on guitar, Nick Campbell covering keyboards and guitar, Matt Warman on bass, and Aidan Bartlett behind the drums. Their initial foray arrived via the 2006 single “Supernatural,” with “A New Day” arriving the following year. Neither release scored major commercial traction, yet both paved the way for a Warner deal and studio time across the ocean in New York City. The year 2008 marked their first appearance on the label via the Top 20 single “The Letter.” Its successor, “All on Our Own,” climbed even higher and settled inside the Top Ten. Buoyed by that pair of successes, the band issued their debut full-length The Brave Don't Run, which entered the New Zealand albums chart at number two during its opening week.
