Biography
In 1998, Dion and Jimmy—two Auckland natives from New Zealand known solely by those names and serving as the group's guitarists and vocalists—formed the D4 after leaving their earlier band Nothing at All. Their independently written and issued 1999 debut EP, also self-titled, unleashed a raucous strain of garage-punk rooted in AC/DC and Motörhead, an approach that carried over to another self-titled CD EP and the Ladies Man single, both issued in 2000. Keeping to their independent path, the D4 delivered their first full-length album, 6Twenty, the following year.
