During the dawn of the 2000s, Jet achieved worldwide recognition when their blend of Exile on Main St. swagger and bold, AC/DC-styled stomp aligned with America’s garage rock revival. Melbourne natives guitarist Cameron Muncey, drummer Chris Cester, bassist Mark Wilson, and frontman Nic Cester formed the quartet at the outset of the new millennium. Almost immediately they issued their own 2002 vinyl-only EP, Dirty Sweet, which found strong favor throughout Australia. The initial pressing of 1,000 copies sold out, and further limited runs boosted the band’s profile in the U.K. An Elektra contract in the United States materialized in early 2003, bringing a domestic release of Dirty Sweet that May. An opening slot for the Rolling Stones in the band’s home country followed soon after. With attention mounting around their gritty, old-fashioned hard rock, Jet delivered their first proper studio album, Get Born, that November.

Featuring crisp guitars and start-stop tempos, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” became a global radio staple, driving Get Born past three million copies sold. The band also collected seven ARIA nominations and won six. Summer 2005 brought European dates supporting Oasis, and Shine On appeared the following autumn. Jet kept up a regular touring schedule while contributing a track to the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack. After a brief hiatus the group reassembled in 2008 to record a third album, releasing Shaka Rock one year later. They served as support for Green Day and Powderfinger before entering hiatus in 2010 and fully disbanding in 2012. Several years afterward, however, Jet resumed activity with headline concerts across Australia in early 2017.
