Psych-pop reggae outfit Sticky Fingers forced their entry into the Australian music scene through sheer persistence mixed with chance encounters. Other band members first came across vocalist and guitarist Dylan Frost as he busked the streets of Newtown, Australia. Shared musical interests quickly drew them together, forming a five-piece completed by Seamus Coyle on lead guitar, Paddy Cornwall on bass, Beaker Best on drums, and Freddy Crabs on keys. Bypassing the usual pub circuit rounds, the group targeted the Newtown Festival instead. Festival organizers initially rejected their application, yet the band climbed onto the stage anyway and delivered a performance that stopped the show. The gamble succeeded, earning them an invitation to perform on the main stage the next year.

In 2009 Sticky Fingers issued their debut EP, Helping Hand, which introduced their distinctive fusion of reggae and indie rock. Two further EPs followed: Extended Play in 2010 and the acoustic set Happy Endings in 2011. Early in 2013 the band delivered their first full-length release, Caress Your Soul, then headed out on a European tour that lifted their visibility across France, Germany, and the U.K. Their second album, Land of Pleasure, arrived the following year and reached number three on the Australian Albums Chart. Although personal matters forced cancellation of a planned European tour in 2015, Sticky Fingers returned forcefully in 2016 with the third album Westway (The Glitter & the Slums), securing their first number one record.
