Biography
Originating in Fremantle, Western Australia, Spacey Jane merge high-octane riffs with garage-rock edges and bright jangly indie textures alongside lyrics that turn inward, often carrying a melancholic cast while confronting the anxieties common to Gen Z. The quartet formed in 2016, and their second album, the atmospheric Here Comes Everybody released in 2022, reached the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart, while their May 2025 follow-up If That Makes Sense incorporated the sleek post-punk and new-wave leanings associated with the 1975 and the Wombats.
Vocalist and guitarist Caleb Harper assembled the lineup that year with guitarist Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu, drummer Kieran Lama, and bassist Amelia Murray. Regional notice arrived in 2017 with the debut EP No Way to Treat an Animal, which contained the widely streamed track “Feeding the Family.” After Murray exited in 2019, Peppa Lane assumed bass duties and made her first recorded appearance on the 2020 album Sunlight. The record peaked at number two on the ARIA charts, and its buoyant single “Booster Seat” received the ARIA Award for Song of the Year.
Conceived and tracked during the COVID-19 lockdown, Here Comes Everybody offered a poised sequence of introspective songs that mirrored the fractured cultural moment of its creation and debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. The single “All the Noise” surfaced in early 2025 and featured on the band’s third album, If That Makes Sense, issued later that May.
