Mansionair, an atmospheric indie outfit headquartered in Sydney, Australia, leveraged a string of buzz-generating tracks to secure both streaming momentum and a record contract during the mid-2010s. Their sleek, synth-tinged pop numbers, among them “Easier” and the ODESZA-assisted “Line of Sight,” broadened their reach ahead of the full-length Shadowboxer, which surfaced in 2019.

The trio first assembled in 2014 after producers and multi-instrumentalists Lachlan Bostock and Alex Nicholls joined forces with Sydney vocalist Jack Froggatt to develop leftover song ideas. An instant rapport prompted rapid expansion of those initial ideas. Glassnote Records soon signed the group, leading to support tours alongside Alt-J and Chvrches. Successive singles steadily enlarged their audience, yet the 2017 release “Easier” proved pivotal, amassing millions of streams and attracting followers at an accelerated pace. Also in 2017, the band joined ODESZA and WYNNE for “Line of Sight,” earning a Grammy Award nomination.

By March 2018, Mansionair had moved operations to the United States and unveiled the tracks “Violet City,” “Technicolour,” and “Falling.” Sessions split between Sydney and a secluded cabin in California yielded Shadowboxer, issued in March 2019, where it reached number 37 on the Australian pop chart. The next year brought the NoMBe collaboration “Guillotine.”
