Kllo function as an electronic pop duo drawing from 2-step garage alongside the airier side of modern R&B. First operating under the name Klo, the act put out an initial EP during 2014 before sharpening their sound across the more danceable and emotive albums Backwater (2017) and Maybe We Could (2020).

Melbourne-based cousins Chloe Kaul on vocals and Simon Lam handling production came together in 2014 for the debut single “Make Me Wonder,” a restrained, shadowy cut that earned placement on BBC Radio 1. That track paved the way for the first EP, Cusp, which appeared on Dot Dash in December 2014. Kllo later signed with Different, a PIAS subsidiary, for the 2016 release Well Worn. Ghostly International managed the U.S. edition of that EP, whose contents featured snug, precisely built ballads paired with close-knit club material. Starting in July of the next year, the pair dropped one new single each month through October, the same month they unveiled their first album, Backwater. They appeared on Chrome Sparks’ self-titled 2018 LP and issued the singles “Potential” and “Candid” that year, with “Back to You” following in 2019. Early 2020 brought the double-sided single “Only Existence”/“Final,” whose proceeds supported First Nations communities and fire services amid that year’s Australian bushfires. Under the name Chloe Kae, Kaul also put out the solo track “Misconception,” produced by Machinedrum. The breakbeat-driven single “Still Here” served as the lead-in to Maybe We Could, Kllo’s second album, which surfaced in July 2020.
