Biography
Under the moniker SOHN, London-based songwriter and producer Christopher Taylor crafts ethereal electronic pop distinguished by its emotional depth. Early in the 2010s he joined forces with the independent powerhouse 4AD, issuing a series of atmospheric works through the imprint that opened with the 2014 debut Tremors and reached greater polish on introspective later efforts such as the 2022 release Trust.
Taylor first issued material as SOHN in 2012, uploading scattered tracks that soon prompted the 12" The Wheel on the Aesop label. His style fused introspective singer/songwriter sensibilities with fragmented electronic rhythms, earning swift critical praise and widespread media attention. This momentum brought an immediate contract with 4AD, whose subsequent singles paved the way for the April 2014 arrival of Tremors. Ahead of that album Taylor contributed remixes and other projects alongside artists including Rhye and Lana Del Rey.
On the follow-up studio album Rennen, issued in 2016, Taylor adopted a streamlined method that spotlighted vocals and melodies through reduced textural density. Early in 2018, preparing for European dates, he unveiled the reflective, slow-burning singles “Hue” and “Nil.” June 2020 saw the appearance of the live album Live with the Metropole Orkest, captured during a 2019 Amsterdam concert alongside the 54-piece Metropole Orkest under conductor Hans Ek. The third album, Trust, arrived in 2022 and showcased understated compositions that combined electronic textures with acoustic elements such as electric piano and warm guitars.
