Biography
Toronto-based producers Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman operate under the name Majid Jordan and specialize in atmospheric alternative R&B alongside experimental pop. Their breakthrough arrived via the 2013 Drake single “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” after which their self-titled debut album reached the upper reaches of the Billboard R&B chart in 2016. The follow-up full-length, The Space Between, returned them to that chart the next year, and subsequent singles such as the Khalid collaboration “Caught Up” and the Drake feature “Stars Align” appeared on their 2021 release Wildest Dreams. Expanding beyond music, the pair portrayed the Halal Brothers in the Hulu series Ramy and issued the 2023 single “Waiting for You” featuring Naomi Sharon.
The two first connected and began working together as students at the University of Toronto. Early in 2013 they issued their initial EP, After Hours, under the moniker Good People as a free download. Later that year Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” credited them as featured artists and climbed into Billboard’s Top Five during the summer, coinciding with the announcement of their signing to Drake’s OVO Music imprint. The label put out the A Place Like This EP in 2014, and the tracks “My Love” and “Something About You” followed as singles in 2015.
February 2016 brought the arrival of the full-length Majid Jordan, which included one cut co-produced by Noah “40” Shebib along with three others shaped by Illangelo. The track uniting both producers, “My Love,” also featured Drake and received further work from Nineteen85, eventually peaking at number 20 in Canada and number 69 in the United States. Their second album, The Space Between, arrived in 2017 and contained the singles “Phases,” “Body Talk,” and “One I Want” with Canadian rapper/producer PartyNextDoor. September 2018 yielded the standalone releases “Spirit” and “All Over You,” while 2019 saw the emergence of “Caught Up” featuring Khalid. Their third album, Wildest Dreams, surfaced in October 2021, incorporating the earlier “Waves of Blue” and the Drake collaboration “Stars Align,” and it reached number 30 on the Canadian Albums chart. Shortly after the album’s release they appeared as the fictional pop act Halal Brothers during season three of Ramy. Additional independent tracks surfaced in 2023, among them “Waiting for You” with Naomi Sharon and “Different” alongside Nonso Amadi.
