Jahron Brathwaite, who records as PartyNextDoor, is a Mississauga-born, Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and producer whose understated, hip-hop-rooted approach to contemporary R&B has invited ready comparisons to fellow Canadians Drake and the Weeknd. Already a frequent guest on other releases, he has contributed to Drake tracks as well as material by Big Sean, Lil Yachty, Rihanna (including the notable single “Work”), Major Lazer, and ZAYN. As the first signee to Drake’s OVO Sound imprint, Brathwaite surfaced in 2013 and quickly scored two charting singles, “Come and See Me” and “Not Nice.” Both 2016’s PartyNextDoor 3, a Juno-nominated set, and 2020’s Partymobile entered the Top Ten on the Canadian and Billboard 200 charts; the latter was soon complemented by the Partypack EP. After a period away from the spotlight he resurfaced with the January 2023 single “Her Old Friends,” which paved the way for PartyNextDoor 4 the following year.

Brathwaite launched his self-titled debut on the Warner Bros.-backed OVO Sound label in July 2013. The understated project, featuring Drake on a single track, peaked at number 34 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Its follow-up, PartyNextDoor Two, arrived in July 2014 with stronger promotion, topped the R&B/hip-hop tally, and reached number 19 on the Billboard 200, helped by the Drake-assisted “Recognize.” December 2014 brought the four-track EP PNDColours. Nearly two years later “Come and See Me,” again featuring Drake, became his first Hot 100 entry and directly preceded the August 2016 release of PartyNextDoor 3. In June 2017, after co-writing DJ Khaled’s “Shining,” he appeared on Drake’s More Life and on ZAYN’s “Still Got Time.” Later that month he issued the Colours 2 EP, which included the Majid Jordan collaboration “One I Want,” while the Seven Days EP followed in September. PartyNextDoor 3 later earned a Juno Awards nomination for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, and “Come and See Me” received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song.

Outside his own projects Brathwaite joined Calvin Harris on “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” and Summer Walker on “Just Might.” November 2019 brought the Drake-assisted “Loyal,” his highest-charting single to date and first Top 20 entry in Canada; it served as the lead to Partymobile, which arrived in March 2020 and became his second Top Ten album. The follow-up single “Believe It,” featuring Rihanna, further supported the project. Seven months later he released the Partypack EP, which contained a posthumous Nipsey Hussle verse along with appearances from Quavo and Lil Yachty. After a comparatively quiet stretch he assisted OG Parker on “No Fuss” and Diddy on “Sex in the Porsche,” both 2022 singles. Parker co-produced Brathwaite’s own January 2023 slow jam “Her Old Friends.” “Resentment” and “Real Woman” preceded PartyNextDoor 4 in April 2024, Brathwaite’s first full-length in four years, which reached number 13 in Canada and number ten on Billboard’s R&B chart. He also released the charting standalone single “Dreamin’.”
