Biography
Eric Bellinger has established himself as a contemporary R&B singer and songwriter whose solo output has grown steadily alongside an extensive catalog of compositions for leading voices across pop, R&B, and rap. Starting in 2009 he supplied dozens of tracks to major names such as Chris Brown, Brandy, and Justin Bieber. His first full-length project, The Rebirth, arrived in 2014 and was followed by two EPs plus the opening installment of the Cuffing Season series. In 2018 he issued Eazy Call, his third studio album and the first to enter the Billboard 200. The double-album continuation The Rebirth 2 appeared the next year and spawned the Chris Brown- and OG Parker-assisted single “Type a Way.” Early in the following decade he delivered the 2021 solo set New Light together with the two-part Hitmaka collaboration 1-800-Hit Eazy: Line 1 & 2. The prolific artist resurfaced in 2024 via the double album The Rebirth 3: The Party & the Bedroom and additional singles including “Feelings Never Die.”
A native of Compton, California, Bellinger played running back for his high-school football squad and secured an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern California. Around that period Epic offered him a recording deal; he chose to pursue music, though his path unfolded primarily through songwriting rather than performing. Between 2009 and 2013 he contributed dozens of cuts to high-profile artists, among them two songs on Chris Brown’s Grammy-winning F.A.M.E., Brandy’s “Without You,” and Justin Bieber’s “Right Here.” Standout successes included Usher’s “Lemme See,” which climbed to number two on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and Brown’s “Fine China,” a number-ten R&B/Hip-Hop single.
Alongside those placements Bellinger developed his own material, releasing the project In the Meantime and the three-volume Born II Sing mixtape series. The ReBirth surfaced in 2014 with guest spots from Sevyn Streeter, Kid Ink, and Sage the Gemini; its singles encompassed the Kriss Kross/Ohio Players-sampling “I Don’t Want Her” featuring Problem and “9 Lives” featuring Too Short and Ty Dolla $ign. Ahead of his next album he issued the Choose Up Season mixtape, then unveiled Cuffing Season in 2015 and a second volume of that series a few months afterward. The largely acoustic Eric B for President: Term 1 EP followed in 2016, with the more eclectic Term 2 arriving at the start of 2017.
Eazy Call, his third studio album—its title drawn from his recurring “It’s Eazy” ad-lib—came out the next year. In September 2018 he and rapper A.D., recording as Poncho Belly & Dizzle, released the joint album Nine. After closing the year with the holiday single “Kisses on Christmas,” Bellinger returned in early 2019 with the double album The Rebirth 2, which contained the hit “Type a Way” featuring Chris Brown and OG Parker. Saved by the Bellinger appeared that September, and Cuffing Season 3 arrived two months later. Throughout 2020 he concentrated on smaller releases such as the third Eric B for President EP along with Scenarios alongside Chase N. Cashe and Optimal Music with Nieman J. Bellinger. He began 2021 with the Hitmaka collaboration 1-800-HIT-EAZY and, in September, issued his own Grammy-nominated solo album New Light featuring Brandy, Teedra Moses, and Kierra Sheard. The solo single “Obsession” followed in 2022. February 2023 brought another joint project with Hitmaka, 1-800-Hit Eazy: Line 2. Early 2024 saw the double-disc release The Rebirth 3: The Party & the Bedroom, succeeded by a collection of remixes and singles such as “Special” with Konshens and “Feelings Never Die.”
