Sevyn Streeter belongs to a generation of contemporary R&B talents that also encompasses Stacy Barthe and Eric Bellinger. She first gained traction in the 2010s by penning material for fellow performers before issuing her own expansive solo recordings. After establishing her name through contributions to projects by Alicia Keys and Ariana Grande, she scored her own R&B success in 2013 via the single “It Won’t Stop,” which featured Chris Brown. Her debut full-length, Girl Disrupted, surfaced in 2017 and reached the upper half of the Billboard 200. The follow-up effort, Drunken Wordz x Sober Thoughtz, appeared four years later.

Born Amber Denise Streeter in Florida, the artist previously recorded under the names Ambee, Se7en, and Sevyn. She entered the industry as the inaugural member of TG4, the pop-R&B ensemble assembled by Chris Stokes, whose prior credits include Immature and B2K. The group’s 2002 release “Virginity” climbed to number 88 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Although a full album was completed, it remained unreleased, and TG4 disbanded. Producer Rich Harrison, known for work with Amerie and Beyoncé, subsequently recruited her for another outfit, RichGirl, which issued the modest hit “24’s” before its own project was shelved.

Streeter next built a songwriting résumé that included “Yeah 3X,” “Wet the Bed,” and “Strip” for Chris Brown, “Keep It Between Us” for Kelly Rowland, “Slower” for Brandy, and both “New Day” and “Limitedless” for Alicia Keys. After signing with Atlantic as a solo act, she issued her initial single, “I Like It,” in October 2012. Momentum built the following year when “The Way,” which she co-wrote for Ariana Grande, reached the Billboard Hot 100’s top tier, while her own “It Won’t Stop” entered the R&B/hip-hop top ten, peaked at number 30 on the Hot 100, and earned gold certification. That December she released the seven-track EP Call Me Crazy, But..., containing both “I Like It” and “It Won’t Stop,” and it landed inside the Billboard 200’s top thirty.

Although she maintained collaborations with Brown and Rowland, Streeter increasingly focused on her own output. A series of singles and the EP Shoulda Been There, Pt. 1 paved the way for the 2017 Atlantic album Girl Disrupted, which peaked at number 92 on the Billboard 200. In 2018 she issued “Yernin,” built around a sample of the Gap Band’s “Yearning for Your Love.” Further tracks, among them 2020’s “HMU,” preceded the arrival of Drunken Wordz x Sober Thoughtz, which also housed the single “Nasty Girl” featuring BIA.
