Biography
A contemporary R&B performer who entered the scene in 2013 and issued the DJ Mustard-crafted track “Collide” the next year, singer, songwriter, and model Justine Skye has built a reputation around dance-oriented R&B laced with hip-hop textures. Her first proper album, Ultraviolet, surfaced in 2018, while the Timbaland-helmed Space & Time followed in 2021.
Skye entered the world in Brooklyn, New York, in 1995. As a teenager she caught the attention of industry figures after accompanying her mother—an entertainment lawyer—to a BMI panel; during the Q&A she volunteered to perform and delivered a cover of Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold.” She later pursued formal vocal training and refined her songwriting before collaborating with August Rigo (Justin Bieber, One Direction, Musiq Soulchild) and Eric Hudson (Kanye West, Diddy, August Alsina). Those sessions produced the Atlantic-issued EP Everyday Living, a self-assured contemporary R&B project that arrived in August 2013 and included a rendition of Aaliyah’s “I Don’t Wanna.”
The following year she issued the slow-jam single “Collide,” a DJ Mustard production featuring a guest verse from Tyga. Her second EP, Emotionally Unavailable, appeared in 2015. In 2016 she delivered her third EP, 8 Ounces, which contained songwriting contributions from the-Dream and Tricky Stewart and included the track “Fun” featuring Wale. Skye’s debut full-length, Ultraviolet, arrived in 2018 and spotlighted the single “Lil’ Boy.” Later that year she released the standalone track “Build” featuring Arin Ray.
After leaving Roc Nation she issued the independent EP Bare with Me in 2020. The next year brought her Timbaland-produced second album, Space & Time, which showcased appearances by Justin Timberlake and Rema. She opened 2022 with the heated breakup single “What a Lie.”
