Summer Walker emerged in 2018 as a standout voice in modern R&B, specializing in self-recorded ballads and intricately layered slow jams. Her debut full-length, Over It, reached number two on the Billboard 200 in 2019. She followed that platinum-certified release with the Life on Earth EP in 2020 and the chart-topping Still Over It in 2021. Another project, Clear 2: Soft Life, surfaced in 2023, and she issued the single “Heart of a Woman” the next year.

Born in Atlanta, Walker was found after the LVRN studio manager—also named Summer Walker—searched her own name online and landed on the aspiring artist’s social-media clips. The discovery led to a deal with LVRN, the Interscope-affiliated label home to DRAM and 6LACK. After leaving jobs as a housecleaner and dancer, she made her LVRN/Interscope bow in 2018 with the self-produced acoustic track “Session 32,” soon adding the Jacob “Gambi” Gamboa collaboration “CPR” and the Arsenio Archer-crafted ballads “Deep” and “Girls Need Love.” Those recordings formed her October mixtape Last Day of Summer, which reached number 44 on the Billboard 200; three months later she released the four-track acoustic EP Clear.

Billed as her first album, Over It arrived in October 2019 and peaked at number two, buoyed by the Top 40 single “Playing Games” (number nine on R&B/hip-hop) plus the charting cuts “Stretch You Out” and “Come Thru.” In 2020 Walker appeared on tracks by 21 Savage, Khalid, and Trey Songz while releasing the five-song Life on Earth EP that July. Still Over It followed in November, introduced by “Ex for a Reason”—her fifth Hot 100 entry as lead artist—and debuted at number one. Clear 2: Soft Life, featuring Childish Gambino, came out in 2023 and reached number 26 on the Billboard 200. The 2024 single “Heart of a Woman” later cracked the Top Ten of the R&B chart.
