Contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Queen Naija rose from online notoriety to consistent chart success, issuing multiple platinum-certified singles along the way. Her initial Billboard entry arrived via the 2018 revenge ballad “Medicine,” while her debut full-length, missunderstood, reached the upper reaches of the Billboard 200 two years later. Subsequent releases paired her with Ari Lennox, Big Sean, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and the EP After the Butterflies surfaced near the end of 2023 before she continued issuing standalone tracks such as “Straight Outta Heaven” in 2024.

Although she resides in Detroit, Queen Naija Bulls grew up in nearby Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she began performing in church and composing original material at a young age. During her teenage years she gained national exposure through several appearances on American Idol, notably its thirteenth season in 2014. After the program, she cultivated a large following on YouTube by posting prank videos alongside her then-husband. Once that marriage ended, she redirected her attention to music while remaining visible on social platforms. “Medicine” entered the Hot 100 at number 45 in April 2018 and simultaneously led the Adult R&B Songs chart; Capitol Records quickly signed her, and she responded that same year with a second Adult R&B Songs number one, “Karma,” plus “Butterflies,” which completed a streak of three consecutive platinum singles. Those tracks, together with “Mama’s Hand” and the No I.D.-assisted “Bad Boy,” formed the Queen Naija EP.

Further singles appeared throughout 2019, followed in 2020 by the album missunderstood, which debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 and number six on the R&B/hip-hop chart. Guests on the project included Lil Durk, Mulatto, Kiana Ledé, and Jacquees. A 2021 deluxe edition, missunderstood…still, spawned the Ari Lennox collaboration “Set Him Up,” which peaked at number 14 on the R&B singles chart. Naija next joined Big Sean for the 2022 single “Hate Our Love,” then opened 2023 with “Let’s Talk About It.” Two additional tracks, “Words of Affirmation” and “No Fake Love” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, appeared on After the Butterflies. In 2024 she released “Mutual Agreement” with Eric Bellinger, followed by “Good Girls Finish Last,” “Missing You” alongside Chandler Moore, and “Straight Outta Heaven.”
