Biography
Arin Ray leveraged his early exposure on the television singing competition The X Factor to build a career as a songwriter for performers including Jason Derulo and K. Michelle, before issuing his first full-length solo project, Platinum Fire, via a major label in 2018. Ty Dolla $ign and VanJess appeared among the contributors to his follow-up album, Hello Poison, which surfaced in 2022.
During the show's debut season in 2011, the Cincinnati native was eliminated as part of the bootcamp-stage ensemble Intensity. He rejoined the competition the next year under Britney Spears's mentorship and finished in tenth place. Ray independently released the single "Turn It Up" in 2013, yet within a few years had earned co-writing credits on Jason Derulo's "Love Like That" and Chris Brown's "KAE." He resumed his own recording activity with the Phases EP in 2016, a year that also brought songwriting contributions to K. Michelle's charting single "Ain't You," Ro James's "Ride," DJ Mustard's "Another Summer," and Jahkoy's "Don't Stop the Vibe."
Ray reached a major-label milestone in 2018 when Interscope issued Platinum Fire, an album that showcased production and performance input from Terrace Martin, Nez & Rio, and Childish Major, among others, along with the single "We Ain't Homies." A deluxe edition arrived later that year and incorporated three additional tracks, one of which was "Always" featuring Babyface. In December 2019 he delivered the Kehlani-featuring Phases II EP.
More than two years passed before new music arrived in the form of the seductive single "The Mood" featuring D Smoke, which Interscope released in April 2022 and which subsequently appeared on Ray's second album, Hello Poison, two months later. That project likewise contained several collaborations, among them tracks with VanJess, Ari Lennox, and Ty Dolla $ign.
