Biography
The Acid formed through a reunion of distinctive voices: Australian Ry X, born Ry Cuming and known for his work with Berlin-based producer Frank Wiedemann under the name Howling, crossed paths again at a Los Angeles party with Grammy-nominated Adam Freeland. Freeland, whose remix credits span the Orb to Lana Del Rey and who released the hit single “We Want Your Soul” along with multiple EPs and albums under his own name, brought Cuming into the studio alongside Steve Nalepa, a composer and professor of music technology. Their open-ended sessions produced four tracks that appeared on SoundCloud in mid-2013 without advance notice yet earned praise for fluidly blending indie, dance, and R&B textures. Infectious Records issued those recordings as the self-titled debut EP early the next year. The trio’s first album, Liminal, followed in July 2014, with the soundtrack to The Bomb arriving in 2017.
