Blending an organic and synthetic approach that fuses refined pop with sensual R&B, Rhye gains additional distinction from the gentle soprano delivery and openly personal compositions of Mike Milosh. The endeavor originated when Milosh partnered with Robin Hannibal to produce their sole joint effort, Woman, which appeared in 2013 and climbed to number 55 on the U.S. chart. Thereafter Milosh steered Rhye alone, maintaining an active touring schedule while issuing Blood in 2018, Spirit in 2019, and Home in 2021, each subtly sharpening the ballad-centered focus established on the debut.

During 2010, after three prior albums on Plug Research under his own name, the Toronto-born Milosh received a remix request from fellow producer and multi-instrumentalist Robin Hannibal, an earlier label associate known for Boom Clap Bachelors, Owusu & Hannibal, and Quadron. The exchange proved unexpectedly fruitful and evolved into the initially anonymous Rhye. The pair aligned with Innovative Leisure to issue the first two singles, “Open” and “The Fall,” in 2012, the former later placed in a Victoria’s Secret advertisement. Their full-length debut, Woman, arrived in March 2013 via Polydor in the United Kingdom and Loma Vista/Republic in the United States, registering on the charts in Denmark and Belgium as well as reaching number 55 on the Billboard 200.

Over the ensuing years Milosh led Rhye across stages and festival grounds throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia. Without Hannibal, the project resurfaced in mid-2017 with the measured, alluring “Please,” the earliest of several singles that closed out the year. Tracks assisted by Rhye, including Bonobo’s “Break Apart” and King Henry’s “Moment,” also surfaced in that span. Blood, Rhye’s sophomore album, emerged on Loma Vista in February 2018, debuting at number 118 in the U.S. and number ten in Belgium; later that year the remix collection Blood Remixed followed, incorporating reworkings from Jeff Samuel, Illangelo, and Poolside. Following another intensive touring cycle, Milosh crafted Spirit, a concise set featuring contributions from Ólafur Arnalds on “Patience” and Dan Wilson on “Needed.” The 2020 singles “Beautiful,” “Helpless,” and “Black Rain” all appeared the next January on the album Home, captured at Milosh’s Topanga residence and several historic Los Angeles studios.
