The English dream pop group Mt. Wolf fuses atmospheric chamber pop, folk, electronic, and R&B textures in a style that recalls James Blake, Bat for Lashes, Bon Iver, and Beach House. The project originated in 2011 as a four-piece before releasing its first EP, Life Size Ghosts, in 2012 and the follow-up Hypolight in 2013. Refined yet somber pop constructions from the band earned praise from both reviewers and audiences, yet the 2014 departure of co-founder and lead singer Kate Sproule left its prospects in question. Reassembled as a trio centered on vocalist Sebastian "Bassi" Fox, guitarist Stevie McMinn, and drummer Al Mitchell, Mt. Wolf resurfaced in 2015 with the EP Red, foregrounding Fox’s singular croon while guest Alexa Harley contributed vocals to one track. The following year the three-piece delivered its fourth EP, Hex. May 2017 marked the arrival of the band’s debut album, Aetherlight, produced by Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós, M83).
