Vocalist Parissa Tosif and producer David Ansari formed Vallis Alps, merging synth pop, downtempo, and hip-hop elements to craft wistful songs that steer clear of excessive nostalgia. Initially separated by vast distances—Tosif hailing from Canberra, Australia, and Ansari from Seattle in the U.S.—the two connected in Israel while on their 2010 gap year. Ansari’s encounter with Tosif’s singing at a friend’s residence sparked their bond, leading to years of joint musical efforts both online and face-to-face. In January 2015 the project issued its self-titled debut EP, after which the single “Young” achieved success by reaching number 27 in the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown for that year. By the end of 2015 the pair had relocated to Sydney, where they received a nomination for Unearthed Artist of the Year at the J Awards. Two follow-up singles—“Fading” in 2016 and “East” in 2017—paved the way for the March 2017 arrival of Vallis Alps’ second EP, Fable.
