Australian electronic project Panama covers a broad swath of dance music, stretching from Hot Chip's funk to Bastille's indie dance-rock. Jarrah McCleary, responsible for vocals, keys, and guitar, shaped the project's first EP, It's Not Over, by layering an icy digital disco approach onto indie rock in the vein of Penguin Prison, RAC, and Goldroom. McCleary delivered a richly produced, assured tone marked by quiet control on the 2013 release Always. The two singles that came afterward stayed on this course, as 2014's "Stay Forever" brought expansive pop and rock elements while 2015's "Jungle" highlighted a gradually intensifying hip-hop rhythm. April 2017 saw the arrival of the warmly introspective single "Hope for Something."
