Biography
Los Angeles indie dance duo Classixx, consisting of accomplished DJs Michael David and Tyler Blake, prioritize enduring pop craftsmanship while weaving together Italian house, disco, funk, new wave, and additional influences. The pair launched their production project in Los Angeles during 2005 under the original name Young Americans. Childhood friends, David arrived with prior experience as a session guitarist and Blake had recently completed music school when the two, still in their early twenties, chose to collaborate on electronic music. They began performing at house parties and supplying remixes, initially concentrating on indie rock artists such as Kill Hannah and Hellogoodbye. In 2008 the duo adopted the name Classixx and released a self-titled EP. Kitsuné Music soon issued the single “I’ll Get You,” which featured Jeppe of Junior Senior, while their remix credits expanded to include Phoenix, Fischerspooner, Yacht, Holy Ghost!, and many others. During 2010 they produced Mayer Hawthorne’s “No Strings.” Signed to the Mountain Dew-supported imprint Green Label Sound, they delivered the single “Into the Valley” in 2011. Their debut album, Hanging Gardens, arrived on Innovative Leisure two years later. The collection revisited “I’ll Get You” and added tracks with Active Child and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and the Juan MacLean; critics responded strongly, and the duo emerged as a frequent touring attraction. Their follow-up project gathered an extensive roster of guest vocalists that included Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, De Luxe, Isles, Harriet Brown, and T-Pain. Faraway Reach appeared in June 2016.
