Biography
French producer Fred Falke crafts electro-disco and house that draws openly from '80s dance and pop. Early acclaim arrived through his partnership with Stardust co-producer Alan Braxe, yielding a run of 12"s highlighted by the filter-disco anthem "Intro" in 2000 and the synth pop-inspired hit "Rubicon" four years later. The pair quickly established themselves as sought-after remixers, turning out reworkings for Death from Above 1979, Kelis, Goldfrapp, and numerous additional artists, while Falke simultaneously launched his own material, later gathering several tracks on the 2011 album Part IV. In his roles as producer, songwriter, and remixer he contributed smooth disco guitar and electro-house rhythms to recordings by Ellie Goulding, Will Young, Katy Perry, Jamiroquai, and others. During the early 2020s he worked repeatedly with producer Zen Freeman, frequently reinterpreting familiar '80s hits, and he supplied the original game soundtrack Flippin Misfits in 2022.
Having started out as a bass player, Falke shifted to keyboards and production toward the close of the '90s. The alliance with Alan Braxe began in 2000 and produced singles on the Vulture and Kitsuné imprints, most of which later appeared on Braxe's 2005 compilation The Upper Cuts. Together they supplied remixes for Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Justice, and many more before concluding their collaboration in 2008. Falke also teamed with German house producer Kris Menace, delivering a remix of the 2004 single "Missile Test" under the duo name Menace & Adam and appearing on the 2006 release "Fairlight." A handful of solo singles and EPs followed, beginning with "Omega Man" in 2006, with the majority collected on Part IV, issued in 2011 by Kris Menace's Work It Baby label. In 2012 Kitsuné released "Geronimo," his collaboration with the Knocks.
Falke wrote and produced tracks for Will Young, Florrie, and Gossip while remixing Lana Del Rey, P!nk, Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo, and dozens of additional artists. Solo activity resumed with the 2015 EP Alpha, which included a voiceover from famed American radio DJ Shotgun Tom Kelly. The 2017 single "Don't Give Up" featured vocalist Jake Isaac. "Watch the Sun," issued in 2019, marked the first of many joint projects with Zen Freeman; the pair then enlisted Todd Edwards for the nostalgic 2020 cut "1980's" and brought Macy Gray aboard for 2021's "Make Me Feel." Recording as the duo Ampersounds, Falke and Freeman issued a series of singles on the Orange label, frequently presenting covers or remixes of '80s hits such as "Last Christmas," "Burning Down the House," and "Personal Jesus." The soundtrack for the video game Flippin Misfits arrived in 2022, and an expanded reissue of Braxe's The Upper Cuts, containing several co-productions with Falke, followed in 2023.
