Emerging from New York, the electropop project Penguin Prison launched its first commercial recordings in 2009 via Neon Gold Records. The endeavor centers on Chris Glover, who handles production, plays multiple instruments, and provides vocals. Stylistic parallels are frequently drawn between Penguin Prison and acts like Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, and Miike Snow. Glover's initial release under the Penguin Prison moniker came in the form of the 2009 EP Animal Animal/A Funny Thing, issued by Neon Gold Records. The subsequent 2010 single The Worse It Gets/Something I'm Not appeared on the same imprint. Downtown Records put out the self-titled full-length debut in 2011. Beyond his own productions, Glover earned recognition through Penguin Prison remixes crafted for Marina & the Diamonds on "I Am Not a Robot," Sébastien Tellier with "Fingers of Steel," Goldfrapp's "Rocket," Erik Hassle's "Hurtful," plus additional artists. During the period leading up to his second album, he persisted in delivering remixes while performing live shows, frequently backed by a complete ensemble. Spring 2015 saw the arrival of the vibrant Lost in New York, which channels the spirit of '80s synth pop.
